You can’t have a hypercar conversation without dropping the name ‘Koenigsegg’. 26 years ago, Christian von Koenigsegg founded the Swedish car manufacturer. And while nowadays their high-performance street cars are well known among sportscar enthusiasts, it took the company almost 8 years and a lot of hard work to officially introduce the CC8S, Koenigsegg’s first street-legal production vehicle. And since then, the company has been skyrocketing.
The Agera family might be Koenigsegg’s best-known model. The RS variant was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show along with the prototype of the Regera. The Agera RS is an advanced version of the Agera R, implementing some of the new technology and features of the One:1 and combines the features of the Agera R and the Agera S. Koenigsegg called it “the ultimate track tool” due to its lightweight features and track optimized technologies.
The RS variant of the Agera is a 25 unit limited small production batch. But for those who think that a limited production run of 25 cars is not exclusive enough, there is the Koenigsegg Agera RSR. It is an advanced version of the Agera RS and limited to only 3 cars, solely built for the Japanese market.
Simply put, the Agera RSR is a bespoke RS loaded with options and makes up just a small fraction of the RS’s already tiny production run. Visually, the RSR looks almost identical to the RS but on closer inspection, you will see that the super sports car is equipped with a number of features that are usually only available as options for the standard model. All three feature Koenigsegg’s customary bespoke exterior and interior designs, which were completed in close consultation with clients.
Koenigsegg Agera RSR by Alex Penfold
As mentioned before the Agera RSR was exclusively made for the Japanese market nad Alex Penfold, a well-known British Photographer was able to spot one of the three cars on the streets of Japan.
Let’s get back to the visuals. The rear wing has two additional elements that connect it to the hood which increases the high-speed efficiency of the wing and generates superior downforce (known from the Agera One:1). Furthermore, the RSR is also equipped with a removable top which is also available as an option for the RS model only. Similar to the Agera XS (another variant of the normal Agera R), the RSR comes with carbon wheels and, as you would guess, each of the three RSRs comes with a bespoke paint job.
From a performance perspective, the RSR is basically an RS, making use of the already familiar 5.0-liter V-8. The twin-turbocharged engine has a power output of 1,176 PS (865 kW; 1,160 hp) and accelerates the hypercar in only 2.9 seconds from 0-100 km/h and only in 6.9 seconds from 0-200 km/h. Koenigsegg claims the top speed of this Swedish bullet is 447 km/h.
While there is no information about the price, the Agera RSR was probably a lot more expensive than the regular $1.65 million Agera RS (as if there’s such a thing as a regular Koenigsegg!). However, limited Koenigeggs can easily fetch up to 3-5 times of its original price on the secondary market. The successor of the Agera, called the Jesko, was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and we are excited to see what’s next for the Swedish hyper car manufacturer.
Summary
Brand:
Koenigsegg
Model:
Agera RSR
Price:
No official statement but list price was probably around USD 2 million, while the re-sell price is easily between 3-5 times of the original price.
Limitation:
Small production batch of only 3 cars
When to drive:
Hard to say for a car that is street legal, but its performance stats beg for a ride on the race track. If you can, rent a private runway for a day and unleash your hypercar power.
What we love about the car:
A limited production batch of only 3 cars – this is something we definitively love at The Collectors Circle. The Koenigsegg Agera RSR is rare, fast and good looking!
