As many of my watch loving nerds know, Vacheron Constantin does not need any introduction in haute horology. The brand was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, making it the oldest continuously operating watch brand in the world. Ever since, the Maison has produced stunning pieces that have both technically and artistically been an embodiment of fine watchmaking. The company has managed to create a brand based on elegance and timeless design rather than trends.
A few weeks ago, I finally got my hands on the Vacheron Constantin timepiece we all have been waiting so long to see. The Overseas Self-Winding (Ref. 4500V/110R-B705) watch is the latest addition to the Overseas collection and definitively one to keep your eye on. The Overseas collection, which was launched in the 1970s, has been updated over recent years with design elements inspired by its early models and strengthened its place among the strong luxury sport watch segment.
Today, the brand-new model might not be at the same sought-after level as Patek Philippe 5711R. But it is on its way to becoming a must-have for watch collectors as it draws a lot of attention with its 18K rose gold case/bracelet material and fantastic blue dial. The watch comes with Mississippienis alligator leather strap (dark blue), rubber strap (dark blue) and the pink gold bracelet (as shown in the pictures).
Compared to the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, the watch feels a bit bigger in one’s hand. The new model comes with a 41mm diameter and 11mm high case designed on the modern Overseas platform whereas the Ultra-Thin version comes at a height of only 8.1mm. Furthermore, the luxury watch is equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals on front and backside.
The dial of the model might be the most eye-catching feature of the watch with its jaw-dropping blue tone, the same as we’ve seen in the steel version. The hands and indexes are made of rose gold as well to match the case of the watch.
Through the sapphire glass background, you can enjoy the Caliber 5100 of Vacheron Constantin which features the Geneva Hallmark as well. When fully wound, the caliber offers up to 60 hours of power reserve.
What I really love about the model is the quick strap change system and additional straps. You can exchange the straps within a few seconds and it feels like holding a new watch in your hands. Very well done, Vacheron Constantin. It’s a nice feature that makes the Overseas a great travel buddy.
