In 2003 LeBron James entered the world’s biggest basketball stage, the NBA, at just 18 years old. And since then, he has changed the game of basketball. LeBron (a.k.a. “The Chosen One”) is one of the best basketball players of all time, if not the best ever.
So, it’s not surprising that Audemars Piguet (AP) chose the superstar athlete as their Brand Ambassador in 2013. To celebrate their cooperation with the basketball player, AP decided to craft a personalised time piece for Lebron which was limited to 600 pieces worldwide.
The watch was listed at USD 51,500 when it was first launched but, with time, its value increased and is currently being traded among watch collectors for approximately USD 75,000 . The self-winding chronograph is beautifully designed and comes with a hand-stitched grey alligator strap, an 18-carat pink gold case and a titanium bezel. The grey dial hosts Arabic numerals as well as hands in pink gold.
What I love about the watch is the fact that LeBron’s signature is printed in blue on the sapphire-crystal backside. Also, I do really like the diamonds on the push-piece at 2 o’clock.
LeBron is the perfect Ambassador for a brand like Audemars Piguet. In the motherland of basketball, the USA, this super athlete is not only respected for his sporting achievements but also for his personality off the court. Recently Mr. James launched the “I PROMISE SCHOOL” where he pledged to send up to 2,300 kids to school, committing $105 million out of his own pocket.
For actions like this, LeBron is loved and respected by the community and the whole nation which makes him the right choice to represent the Swiss watchmaker’s brand in the US market. He deserves to have his own timepiece and what a beautiful watch it is!
